It is time for our third annual “Your Mama” joke contest to celebrate the birthday of my younger brother, Lance Corporal Nathan P. Dodd. Nathan was killed by a drunk driver on Dec.26, 2003. There are a lot of holes this has left in the world, one of the more profound holes was that of laughter. That guy could turn anything into a joke, and never at the expense of someone’s feelings.
We miss Nathan. We miss being invited into his world. We will never forget him and it is with great joy that we celebrate the day this world was introduced to him.
Last year we offered the winner a fancy t-shirt with Nathan’s picture on it. This year we decided to let anyone who wanted a t-shirt have the chance to purchase one, because, really, who wouldn’t want a picture of Nathan Dodd on their shirt? I know I want one.
To enter the contest to win your very own free shirt, simply enter a “Your Mama” joke as a comment on this post. IMPORTANT: Only one comment per person, please. Duplicate responses will have to be deleted because I am using a random number generator to pick the winner.
If you would like to purchase your very own t-shirt, the cost will be $14.00. I will have images available shortly so you can see what they look like.
If you don’t want a t-shirt, but you want to help commemorate this day, please consider a donation to the Nathan Dodd scholarship fund through Westover Hills Church of Christ. Nathan regularly provided so underprivileged kids could go to camp on his meager Marine salary, and this tradition has continued in his honor. Checks can be sent to Westover with “Nathan Dodd Scholarship Fund” in the memo.
The winner will be announced on July 28. All entries must be in before I wake up that day. I like to stay in bed as long as I can, so let’s say 8:30ish?
