Before I left my apartment for my parents house on Friday afternoon, I made a crucial and rookie Texan mistake. As a part of my on going efforts to save money on electricity, I shut off the air conditioner. A smart Texan would have known better and left it at 80, but certainly NOT have turned it off completely unless the Texan wasn’t planning on returning until mid December.
So, we drag ourselves up the stairs late Sunday night, way past the kids’ bedtimes, to find the thermostat at, wait for it, 97. NINETY SEVEN. INSIDE. MY. HOME!
Do you know how long it takes the air conditioner to get the room comfortable again? Really, I’m asking, because I am still waiting. Very bad idea.
While I suffer from what I am sure is a second degree heat stroke, please head over to BloggedIn and check out my fun and fabulous interview with our good friend and fellow blogger, Natalie.
And then, come back here and tell me your favorite thing to do when you are so hot you can’t stand it. Do you jump into a pool fully clothed? Chase ice cream trucks? Hire servants to fan you and feed you frozen grapes? What do you do?

Wow, that’s crazy! When we went camping on Memorial Day weekend, I turned ours off but our house only got up to 83 (we keep the thermostat at 78 usually); but it still took awhile to cool back down. We have been spending a lot of afternoons after nap time up at the neighborhood pool. Also, a fan and a cold drink can’t hurt either! I find I’m always cooler after a swim and a shower, and I pretty much refuse to wear a bra around the house because it just makes me too uncomfortable. Of course, I don’t have kids coming through all the time, so maybe that’s not really an option for you to cut down on the sweat.

Reason number 97 why I wear bib aprons.

That’s totally lame. I am so sorry for you. Really really sorry.
Sit around in wet clothes right under the fan. That’ll cool you down.

I second the wet clothing + fan idea.

Really, Jenni? Because I figured that with 12 kids there might be at least two willing to fan you and feed you frozen grapes. You should ask. Great bonding activity, I think.

I personally like to just complain to someone about how hot it is…then I realize how lame it is to complain when I CHOSE to live here, and get over it =) Plus I know no matter how hot it is here, it’s always worse in Houston!

I whine until the family takes me for a cool drink at Sonic. Of course I have to offer to pay so they will all go. Then I pretend like I forgot my wallet but they are already sucked into the scam and someone buys for me. So perfectly perfect.

I remember the first (and of course the only) time my yankee hubby decided to turn off the air while we were gone, I kept saying ‘not a great idea things are different here in OK’ When we got back I think it was cooler outside than it was in!

Well, I know what you’re talking about. Sunday, the power company had a black out. Talk about HOT… for 6 hours we sat without power, then had to cool off the house after that. On a day that reached 102 degrees. Totally been there.

Help! I’m missing out on my Amy fix! I mean I know I saw you yesterday and I will see you again today, but what about the online? What will I do when I’m at home avoiding chores???
