Saturday Sunflowers

May 31, 2008

Eric and I transplanted some of the sunflowers into random pots we found at Goodwill (I love me some Goodwill), but now it looks like we will have to buy deeper pots. Our current method to gardening turns out to be more of a learn as we go rather than a study, plan, and attack approach. It’s been quite fun and all it cost us was four bucks at the Dollar General and five bucks at the Goodwill so far. Pretty cheap entertainment.

Some of you commented in my last post that I was whipped, or “wrapped” by Charlie. I asked him if I was wrapped and he said, “I’ll tell you when you’re wrapped. Now, get out that plastic bag and go pick up my poop.”

That’s how I learned–and am still learning! It’s fun watching plants grow.

I have learned patience with my gardening. I used to want my plants to flower right away, haiting the waiting time. Now I really enjoy watching them grow and mature each day. I love to see the buds open and slowly turn into flowers.

The plant that I’m most excited about this year is my hydrenia. Last spring we got some hail and I almost lost the plant. It grew back, but didn’t flower at all over the summer. This year it blossoming and it is beautiful!

I like your pots too. I may have to look at our Goodwill and see if they have any cool pots!

This comment thing needs an edit button. I just re-read my comment. Hating not haiting….I wish I could chuck my faux pas up to being tired, but the sad truth is I’m a horrible speller! (Ha! I had to look up how to spell faux pas!)

  3. I’ve got some pots for you tomorrow. They are not ideal but they are bigger so that’s something.

    See me at church.

What a garden. I just planted some vinca in pots too. Hope I can keep em alive! My gerber daisy and zinnias came back from last year. Now THATS cheap. Ha!

Charlie sounds a lot like my Sadie, but I bet his little poops dont require a SHOVEL. Yikes!

I hope you realize that those sunflowers will get about 10-12 ft tall. They are beautiful, very large flowers. You won’t have room to walk on those steps. You will have tons of sunflower seeds to pass out to the neighborhood kids. Enjoy!
