Ian’s Favorite Things

April 9, 2008

Ian has made a recent habit of running off with my camera. He does this with my full permission because I am always curious what goes on in his mind and getting a peek at his pictures gives me some bit of insight.

On his most recent photo shoot, he asked me if we could put the pictures on the computer so he could see them right away.

“What did you take pictures of, Ian?” I asked him as I loaded the memory card.
“I taked pictures of my favorite things!” He responds with a very high level of pride.
If you know Ian at all, you know that the boy loves buttons. He has been an admirer of t.v. remotes since he was about six months hold. Imagine! All those buttons to push crammed in one tiny hand held device. Fantastic.
If you read this post on the fine art of fake tanning, then you know why I have a full box of rubber gloves on hand. On a very rare day I blow them up and make balloons for Ian. It’s like Christmas morning for him.
This is the clock we use to learn to tell time. Clearly, it is not a working clock. I had no idea it was so special. But now I know.
This is a picture that hangs in my living room and it is one of my all time favorite pictures of Ian. He is sitting in his great-great uncle’s lap at about nine months of age. My Great Uncle Jack is a true cowboy and dresses the part no matter the venue.

Ian was very upset at a family reunion and I was at my wit’s end trying to soothe him. Jack came over to me and took my screaming baby from my arms saying only, “Here now, here now. Let me see the baby”. I was wondering what in the world this old cowboy could possibly want with a screaming mess of a baby when the next thing I know, Ian is sitting in Jack’s lap, teething on his Great-Great Uncle Jack’s silver string tie and just staring into his eyes.

It’s my favorite picture of my favorite boy (And my favorite Great Uncle Jack) and it really made me smile to see it made Ian’s list as well.
Eric gave Ian his watch when it broke. It is a very treasured item. It’s kind of funny, because I think Eric was just going to throw it out, but Ian caught him and asked for it. Indeed, it is not trash to one little boy.
And, here’s his feet. It’s a good thing that he really likes his feet. They have done him well so far and it is important not to take those things for granted.
This picture makes me kind of sad. I casually told him that morning that it was time to throw away that pair of shoes. They are very worn and due a nice final rest. To me, it was no big deal. To Ian though, it needed a moment.
And here we have one half of my favorite pair of shoes. I think I am going to tell myself that this picture was taken because his Mom’s happiness is one of his favorite things.

Now if you’ll excuse me, it’s time to log off and give that boy a sloppy kiss.

I love giving Bella my camera or my camera phone. It’s so interesting to see what she snaps. Ian’s favorites are definitely cool. :)

I really enjoy looking at the pictures my kids take. You never know what they will think is interesting, or what strange pose they’ll catch me in. :) Slumped over the computer is a common one.

In one of his little shoots, he got a picture of me lounging in my apron. When I saw it, I wondered if he was aiming for a blogger blackmail shot.

Amy…are you telling us you did not “expose” all the shots that Ian took

Amy! I thought you didn’t lounge in your apron!

I love that he loves his feet. They are so hard to exchange.

I adore kids’ pics. They are so funny. Did you see the post I did with Riley’s photog skills?

My girls will disappear with my camera and I love seeing what they put on it. I like the video’s especially. I saw your movie list on you profile…girl after my own heart. To go along with your ninja skills do you have the ability to drink milk and know what the cow ate?

I would have to start a whole other blog to post all of Ian’s pictures, Aunt Sandra. The boy really likes to push buttons, and that’s half of a good picture.

Deleise, No picture, no proof. I did see your post. It was shortly after that that I became more lax in letting the kids run off with my camera. It’s like those cameras that they put on wild animals so we can see what they do without human intervention. Isn’t it fun?

I can’t drink milk, Natalie. It’s not because I’m allergic, I just hate the way it looks, smells, and feels. I hate milk. There. I said it. I am mature(ish)enough to own it.
Can you do that? What an interesting ninja skill.
