Happy National Night Out!

August 3, 2005

Yesterday my kitchen was in a state of holiday like buzz. I baked and prepared goodies and the kids danced around like something great was going to happen. As I am sure all of you know, yesterday was National Night Out. What’s that? You never heard of such a thing? Read a paper.
Our neighborhood party happened in my yard. The neighbors brought food for every kind of diet. Carnivore, vegan, vegatarian, whatever. Naturally the Petersons ate the beef. A fire truck was invited for entertainment and, as my kids were the only ones there, they got very exclusive tours from the three firemen. My across the street neighbor brought out his band mates and we really had a festive party!

I am so sorry we did not make it. it sounds like loads of fun, but we were celebrating our own good news in our own quiet way at my house. You know, kids in bed by 7:30 makes for a quiet celebration.

The band was playing right outside of Mackenzie’s room, so she didn’t go to sleep until 10:30. I have been paying the price for that indulgence all day.

  3. Susan Says:

Ahhh cranky Mackenzie is SOOO fun.

  4. Amy Says:

Cranky Mackenzie is a hoot, but I prefer cranky Ethel!

That is so cool. Nieghborhhod party. So how did you let the nieghbors know?
Do you feel if helped your nieghborhood come closer together?

Thank you for managing my blog for me while I was gone. You did a great job.

Glad you’re back, Chris! One blog is trouble enough.
We passed out flyers and sent e-mails to the folks who came to our last party six months ago. Now I know that “the guys with the Volvo” has a name and that “that lady who just moved in” also has a name. It is easier to call out to them by name rather than description.

Isn’t it supposed to increase community awareness to help prevent crime?

We had a nieghborhood cookout a year or two ago. It was pretty fun, and we had a fairly good turnout. We need to do it again sometime soon.

I know the church that we went to does south hosted one of these parties for the nieghborhood, as a community outreach sort of event.

Unfortunately I missed this on the calendar. Maybe next year.

  9. Rebecca Says:

What a cool idea! Did you start that up?

  10. Amy Says:

Nope. It’s a national deal held in neighborhoods all over on the same night. Check it out next year.

Oh, so you are not the national leader for national night out? I thought your blog picture was from the national night out national rally for the nation.

Were you able to recruit any nieghbors into the cult? It might be helpful to have more musicians and firemen.
